A Safe Space

All Western PA Intergroup meetings are first and foremost places of safety.

As stated in the SLAA Preamble, “SLAA is not affiliated with any other movements or causes, either religious or secular.” Further, the “common denominator of our obsessive or compulsive patterns transcends any personal differences of sexual orientation or gender identity.” And, as noted in several meeting formats, “This is not a place for picking up sex partners.”

The Fifth Tradition clearly tells us, “Each group has but one primary purpose — to carry its message to the sex and love addict who still suffers.”

And Tradition Ten states, “S.L.A.A. has no opinion on outside issues; hence, the S.L.A.A. name ought never to be drawn into public controversy.”

Our safe space includes those times before, during, and after a meeting.

Nothing — not religion or lack thereof, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other factor — should ever prevent anyone from being welcome at one of our meetings. These are outside issues that have no place causing division in a Twelve-Step program.

We seek to be a safe, inclusive group. We want all who attend our meetings to feel welcome, safe, and comfortable.
